Membership in the L.A. Winds is limited to those accepted following a short audition process, which may include playing individually for the section leader or director, and sitting in on a rehearsal. It is advisable to come to a rehearsal prior to auditioning to get a feel for the group and its music. Guests are welcome to listen anytime. Rehearsals are held from 7:15 PM to 10:00 PM on Mondays at Los Angeles Pierce College in Woodland Hills.The rehearsals are held in room 3401, which is located near parking lot 6 at the top of the hill.  The band does not follow the standard Pierce College schedule, and generally rehearses throughout the year, with a short break (two to three weeks) in December and another short break (usually one month) during the summer. 

Los Angeles Pierce College is located in the San Fernando Valley, in the community of Woodland Hills. The college is located between DeSoto Ave. and Winnetka Ave., just south of Victory Blvd. and north of the 101 freeway.
